Even though it's only January and the summer is months away, the Government of Ontario recently began its annual summer jobs recruitment campaign. This year, they will be hiring hundreds of students throughout Ontario to work in a variety of roles.
There are a range of jobs available, including clerical/office jobs, agriculture jobs, and technology/science-related jobs. For a full listing of available jobs, download the 2016 Ontario Government Summer Jobs List
In order to be considered for the various summer jobs with the Government of Ontario, you must meet these four requirements:
1) You must be at least 15 years old (note: some positions require applicants to be aged 15-24 or 29 for a person with a disability)
2) You must be a resident of Ontario with an Ontario address
3) You must be eligible to work in Canada with a valid SIN number
4) You must be enrolled at a secondary or post-secondary institution or have graduated within the last six (6) months
To apply for a summer job with the Government of Ontario, visit the GO Jobs website and search for "Student" in the "Select Career Level" search options section. You will then see a list of all available government summer jobs across Ontario (note: to make your search easier, filter by the locations closest to where you live and/or are willing to commute to).
When you have found the job(s) you are interested in, scroll to the bottom and click "Apply Online". You will then need to complete the online application form with questions about your eligibility for the program, work/location preferences, education, and skills. You will also need to upload your resume and cover letter - ensure that you combine both into one document.
After you have applied, hiring managers will screen resumes and successful applicants will be contacted within 4 to 8 weeks with information on next steps in the recruitment process.
In terms of application deadlines, they range from January 19, 2016 to to March 29, 2016 and depend on the job - be sure to review each job ad carefully and apply by the deadline!
