How to find a part-time job with Gap Inc stores

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, more retail stores are looking at their staffing plans for the upcoming holiday season and hiring staff to ensure they can handle the expected increases in business.

One of the largest employers of holiday staff is Gap Inc., which owns all Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic and Gap Outlet stores. To give you an idea of how many staff Gap Inc. hires, last year, they filled more than 60,000 positions across Canada and the US.

If you're super keen on getting a job at a Gap Inc. store, you should consider attending their Holiday Hiring Event, which will take place on Saturday, October 17 from 9AM to 2PM in your local Gap, Old Navy, or Banana Republic store. In a nutshell, the hiring event gives you an opportunity to have an on-the-spot interview with a hiring manager, bypassing the typical application process.

But if you can't make it to today's hiring event, then check out the Gap Inc. Careers portal for a list of available full and part-time retail jobs in your area.

To get started, on the Gap Inc. Careers portal, run the following search:
  • "seasonal" AND "associate"
To the left of the search field, put in your location and press search. You'll then be presented with all of the career opportunities available at the Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic stores in your area.

Once you have found an opportunity that you are interested in pursuing, click the "Apply Now" button, which will begin the application process.

Now, to accept and process applications, Gap Inc. uses the Taleo system, which is probably my least favourite application system. When you are submitting your application, be patient. The Taleo system can be glitchy and slow - it's not your computer, it's the platform.

Once you have created an account, you can begin the application process by uploading your resume - or you can chose to complete the form manually. Regardless of what you chose to do, you will be able to review your application form before submitting it.

Alternatively, if applying online isn't your thing, visit your local Gap Inc. store next week and ask them about their hiring plans for the upcoming holiday season. Be aware that some hiring managers might ask you to apply online, whereas others will accept a resume - so be ready with a copy of your resume just in case.

Good luck!
