Art Gallery of Ontario looking for summer camp staff

Founded in 1900 and located at 317 Dundas Street West, the AGO is "home to one of the most diverse art collections in North America, the recently re-opened Art Gallery of Ontario is enhanced by interactive gallery spaces, a stunning retail shop, and spectacular dining and event venues".

And right now, as they prepare for their summer season, the AGO is looking for experienced staff to assist in the the planning and preparation of their famous arts-focused summer camps.

Summer Art Camp - Counsellor

Contract: June 21 to September 3, 2011

Hours: 40 hours per week (8am to 4pm)

Salary: $13/hr

Duties: supervises children during Summer Art Camp programs; organizes activity plans during this eight week long camp in collaboration with the Lead Counselor/Assistant Lead Counselor; leads groups of children in recreational activities; assists Studio Instructors during formal art class instruction


- Enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary program in visual arts, education, physical education, health and recreation or other appropriate areas of study
- Experience supervising groups of children (aged 6-14) in an indoor/outdoor camp and/or educational environment
- Experience in developing activity plans
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent problem solving and team-building skills
- Strong interest in the visual arts
- First Aid knowledge an asset

Summer Art Camp - Lead Counsellor

Contract: June 24 to September 3, 2011

Hours: 40 hours per week (8am to 4pm)

Salary: $15/hr

Duties: assists in the co-ordination and monitoring of Camp Counselors, including overseeing their individual program planning in consultation with Camp Coordinator; researching and developing resource materials for recreational children’s activities and games for Camp Counselors; assisting with development and delivery of Camp Counselor Training; assisting with the briefing/debriefing session with Counselors at regular intervals throughout the camp.


- Enrolled in a post-secondary program in visual arts and/or arts education
- Experience in art studio education for children ages 6-14
- Experience supervising groups of children aged 6-14 in indoor/outdoor camp or educational environment
- Experience in child behaviour management
- Creativity, diplomacy and skill in team-building and training
- First Aid knowledge and asset
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Basic computer skills (word-processing, e-mail)
- Experience in basic office procedures and administration
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
