For those of you that have patiently waited, the hugely popular Service Canada CNE Job Fair starts tomorrow, Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at 9:00am sharp!
Organized by the Service Canada Centre for Youth (SCCY) - Dufferin Mall location, the CNE job fair is great for students and youth looking for a part-time or full-time contract position before school starts again in September.
The 2010 Service Canada CNE Job Fair will take place at the Dufferin Gates, which are located at 10 Dufferin Street.
The best way to get there is via public transit.
TTC: Take the subway to Dufferin station and then take the 29 Dufferin bus southbound and exit at 'Dufferin Gate Loop'.
Go Transit: Take the Lakeshore West train to Exhibition Go Station. After exiting the station, walk west along Manitoba Drive to Saskatchewan Road. Continue to walk west until you reach Dufferin Street and then walk north.
To get ready for the CNE job fair, the SCCY staff and I recommend the following:
1.) Visit the Service Canada Student Job Bank to find a list of the companies looking to recruit at the job fair. All of the positions that will be filled during the job fair can be found on the job bank. To find a complete listing, refine the search results to just those for High Park/Parkdale
INSIDER TIP: Check out my list of the jobs available during this year's CNE job fair. I'll be updating it regularly with information I receive from the job fair organizers.
2.) Get your resume and cover letter ready. If you don't already have one, download my free cover letter and resume templates. These templates are already properly formatted and all you have to do is input your information.
Also, check out my tips on creating an eye-catching cover letter and a resume that stands out from the crowd
And don't worry - if you can't get a resume or cover letter done in time, there will be staff on hand during the job fair that will be able to help you create one.
3.) Arrive early! The job fair works on a first come, first served basis. Employers have a limited number of interviews they are going to do and you have to register to take part. And although the job fair officially begins at 9am, some people will arrive early to line up so they can register for the employers they really want to work for. Get there early so you aren't disappointed!
4.) Dress professionally! I recommend business casual - khakis or dress pants and a button shirt are perfect. And consider what they weather will be like - a sweater or rain jacket could be necessary since the temperature can fluctuate quickly.
5.) Bring photo ID with you. You never know - you may get an on-the-spot job offer and you will want to be prepared.
6.) After registering for an interview, do not leave! You may lose your spot and your chance to impress the hiring manager. Stay close by since staff will call your name to let you know that your interview is coming up.
7.) Bring activities - like games, cards, or a book - along with drinks and snacks since the job fair is in an area where there isn't much going on.
8.) Remember to have fun!
